Azalea Cup 2011

For its second incarnation, the event was moved to Patriot's Park, just on the outskirts of Augusta and shifted on the calendar to December 11. Its format was also adjusted to a round-robin event to allow for a third team to participate. Newly formed clubs from Middle Tennessee and Greenville, SC made their way to Augusta for what was now a 10-a-side event. The Augusta Club pulled out wins in both of its matches, a 5-point win over MTSU and a 1-point win over Greenville. Two players looking to form a club in Charleston rounded out the AHC roster making a total of 12 hurlers wearing Augusta jerseys on the day.

In the first match, Augusta jumped out to an early lead by scoring a goal from a free in the opening minutes. Augusta led at halftime 2-3 to 1-1 and continued the second half defensive toughness to finish up with the win. Against Greenville, Augusta also climbed ahead to a halftime lead of 0-5 to 0-1. The Gaels made a valiant second-half comeback effort with a goal and three points but came up just short. The third and final match of the event pitted MTSU against Greenville. The Gaels jumped out to an early lead on the Wolfhounds and continued the strong showing throughout the match. So after all three teams had played each other, Augusta was the only one left undefeated and subsequently took home the cup.
